Concert Summary

After the Never Say Die album and tour, which ran between 1978 and 1979, Black Sabbath could no longer effectively function with the overt drug and alcohol dependency of their lead singer, Ozzy Osbourne. They fired him, and he went on to develop what would become a hugely successful solo career with the help of his future wife, Sharon Arden (daughter of Sabbath’s manager, Don Arden.) Why does the group picture for this concert have Ozzy in it? Dio is the singer here so there should be a picture of Dio with with the band. I'm sure WG can find a group Sabbath picture with Dio in it! If they can't, I'll happily send you one.

For people who love Sabbath (I feel that i'm their #1 fan in that northland they call Canada),check out their 1997 Last Supper DVD. Yeah, maybie Ozzy is the weakest link, but isn't Sabbath all about raw metal power from Geezer,Bill on the skins and cymbals and the Wizard on Vaocals? Tony Iommi is definitely the Jimi Hendrix of what is now called Heavy Metal (goood ole psychadelic hard rock) and he paved the way, along with Ritchie Blacmore and Jimmy Page as the triumvirate of old school guitar proficiency. Enjoy Dio though as a vocalist, yes definitely more polished and better sounding nowadays ! Good stuff here lives thru magic of the Vault!

Wow, any live Sabbath is awesome! Seen them twice with Dio. Sometimes the keyboard in the background of this recording gets a little distracting, though.

Hey Tex1836, if you saw them two months ago was that with Bill on drums? I thought it was that lineup? I am blind.

    FYI... Dio's a pothead..

First time I have ever heard Dio sing Sweet Leaf. This was probably the only tour he ever did that song. Considering Dio was never one to write or sing anything about "getting high" I am sure he wasn't thrilled with doing this song. Just listening to how he introduced the song says it all...lol.

Thanks for bringing out that Bill Ward is on drums. I always thought Sabbath with Ozzy sounded more "loose" or all over the place live which isn't really a compliment. I always gave credit to Dio for making them sound more tight live however I think I have been wrong all these years. This sounds like old Ozzy Sabbath with Dio singing (because that is what it is). It's clear to me now that Vinny Appice is what is missing. These guys are so much tighter and better with Appice in the line up. As a matter of fact I saw them 2 months ago as "Heaven and Hell" and they sound better now than I have ever heard them.

This was my first concert. So cool to find a recording of it!

This was a darker, heavier lineup live with Bill Ward than Vinnie Appice. This being the short-lived Dio/Iommi/Butler/Ward lineup makes it a must listen.
