Concert Summary

Ozzy Osbourne had only been out of Black Sabbath a couple of years when he formed this now legendary solo band and embarked on his controversial Blizzard of Oz tour (rumored to be a reference to his ongoing cocaine use). Now supporting a wife, Sharon (the daughter of Sabbath manager Don Arden), Ozzy was essentially broke, and had to start from the ground up when launching his newfound solo career.

Unlike most lead singers who go solo in order to…entire summary

RIP Randy Rhoads. What a talent. What a tragic, senseless loss.

Randy Rhoads' playing is still awe-inspiring even after years of listening to the Tribute album for the first time along with the two classic studio albums. I still have to say that I prefer Tribute to this, even though Randy sounds great Ozzy seems a little off. Tribute just seems to have more balls to the walls I guess...To each his own...

This is a fantastic recording of a great show. The earlier poster was correct that the guitar spot from this show was used on the Tribute album, interesting enough along with 2 other live recordings (5/11/81 Cleveland for most tracks and a few more at the end from 10/20/80 England, which itself had more songs heard on the famous 'Mr Crowley EP'). It's amazing that the guitar tracks on Tribute are totally raw and untouched - it seems so perfect. Randy is also ablaze here for sure, and Ozzy himself is actually having a pretty good night too, by Ozzy standards. Only problems with the one here on WV are that it's an incomplete recording and the running order isn't correct (Tribute has the correct set sequence). Nice pull Wolfgang's Vault.

Who in the world would think of Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman as "deep, heavy, slow moving rock"? The Chipmunks??? Where did that come from?

just like to say if you saw him a few days after the death of randy you saw a guitarist called bernie torme from ian gillans band who took over until a proper replacement could be found. he only played for about a week or two i believe, slighty longer than pete way of ufo when he stepped into the bass player role for a couple of the english shows

randy rhoads is the six string wizard, I've been playing guitar for 28 years and one of the reasons I started was because of randy. Its hard to think about what he would be doing now if he woule have lived, I love everything about every note he's ever played. god bless Randy Mark from North Braddock Pennsylvania

All I can add to these comments is not only is Randy the Absolute reason I play Guitar, but for any True Randy Rhoads fans reading these comments and you play guitar, we need to take with us also his dedication to always improve and be true to ourselves. From all I have read about him over the years in magazines (and I think I bought every single magazine EVER published that had an article on Randy!) he was also a gentleman and a kind Spirit too. Hey, I'm not naive, I know he had his partying days on the Sunset Strip when he was still in Quiet Riot, but we're talking about a man who while with Ozzy on Tour would take Classical guitar lessons. He wasn't out banging chicks and getting high on coke like all the other Rockers in the 80's. I remember having this exact concert when I was about 13 on cassette, and me and my friend Bill would just covet it's existence as if Randy reached down from Heaven and handed it to us himself! lol RIP Randy. There will NEVER be another like you. Peace. -Dave
