Concert Summary

When Townshend staged this charity concert in 1985, he had been off the road with The Who for three years. That pivotal British Rock band had done a "farewell" tour in 1982, but had reared its head again and roared a few months earlier in a one-off appearance at Live Aid. And despite pleas from both Daltrey and Entwistle to reform and tour again, the next proper Who reunion would have to wait until four years later, in 1989. In the meantime, Townshend was determined to keep his solo career on track, which had been propelled…entire summary

This concert is not holding up. The lame 80's keyboards are so prominent and really suck the life out of some of the real monsters (Behind Blue Eyes). Huge fan but I would prefer an acoustic set to the way they're presented here.

One more clarification. Yes, Mary-Anne was on Sell Out but the B side version you mention was not...that one was quite different and on the CDs Who's Missing and Rarities Vol. I & II, both unfortunately out of print. There is yet another version of it (similar to but not the same as the B side version) in the extended cuts on the Sell Out CD. Just for the sake of accuracy. This is an outstanding concert, and I'm glad we're spared the visual of Townshend dancing to Barefootin'.

2 corrections - Mary Ann With The Shaky Hands was from Sell Out, not Happy Jack. Also, Second Hand Love is listed twice in the song descriptions. Great, great concert!
