Interview Summary

This interview with Lisa Robinson was recorded in 1984, after Roger Waters had started touring the US in support of The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. A concept album written at the same time as The Wall, it was rejected by the other Pink Floyd members for seeming too “personal.” Waters used the material for his first post-Floyd solo album, featuring Eric Clapton on the studio recording and ensuing tour.

    Like every great band of musicians, the group as a whole was greater than its separate parts. This can be evidenced by each of the Floyd's less-than-stellar solo efforts. David Gilmour's solo recordings were, as far as I'm concerned, far better than any of Roger's. But they were never better as when the four Floyd's were as one.

    Roger IS Pink Floyd (since Syd went missing). Gilmour is a great guitarist/vocalist, but a horrible songwriter on his own.
