Concert Summary

Stevie Ray Vaughan was a much-acclaimed session player from Texas when he got hooked up with David Bowie in early 1982. Bowie was in the beginning stages of recording what would be his multi-platinum album, Let’s Dance. Once he heard Vaughan and his biting style of blues-drenched guitar, he had to have him. Vaughan agreed to make the album, but when Bowie offered him the 18-month world tour attached to the record, he passed.

Certain he could make it in his own right, Vaughan and his back-up band, Double Trouble, pursued and eventually landed a meaty solo deal with Epic Records.…entire summary

I am a ginormous srv fan, have been for many years. i've seen him in concert twice, including the night before his tragic accident. while this is an excellent recording, check out stevie at rockpalast in germany (1984), the recording is awesome, but the video gives true insight to the passion he put into each song! especially this tune, watch it, and i think you'll agree. the first time i saw it, it just absolutely blew me away!

If you didn't know you'd think it was JIMI until the vocals start.

Also, Texas Flood.... SEARING. One of the best versions I've heard. Although they may have played better when sober, and they may have been pretty intoxicated during this show... I still feel that this is one of the best live shows I have heard from them, and I have heard everything that has been released by them studio or live, and the only show I know of that I have yet to hear is the early show from this night.

Things (That) I Used To Do is superb on here. jumpin joe, you say it's better on the early show? Wow. I haven't listened to that one yet. It's hard to believe that. I can hardly wait to scope it out! SRV may or may not be the best ever, and no one can ever really say who is, or who isn't. But I can definitely say he is my favorite of all time, best ever or not. Love it. So much passion, mixed with so much ability. Hard to beat.

I Was stationed at Osan AB in Korea when he passed away. I was devastated hearing the news as well as my friends. We had an impromptu wake in his honor and played all our favorite songs. What a talent he was. The world lost one of the truly great blues guitar players of all time. SRV, you will be missed.

Austin city limits, that was on PBS, had SRV many times. Can we hear those also?

Unfortunately I never got to see SRV live, but I own everthing he's ever done - on VINYL! His album's production value are superb. One last thought, if this isn't his best stuff (as mentioned previously) it still is some of the greatest guitar work we are ever likely to experience. Long live SRV. Steve
