Concert Summary

What can be said about this legendary Allman Brothers Band set that hasn't been said before? Not much, but for the sake of those unfamiliar with this particular show, here they are, the original lineup, performing the last set ever to be played at the venerable Fillmore East.

Country influences were not yet prominent in the group’s sound, but their unique blend of rock, blues and jazz was reaching stratospheric regions by this point. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts’ telepathic lead guitar playing combined with Berry…entire summary

I'm a little confused. The 1st two cuts on this recording ("Statesboro Blues" and "Don't keep me wonderin' as well as a few others sound like the original vinyl. I purchased the Double CD "The Fillmore Concerts" and listening to this now it sounds like they used different takes from different nights. Of course I don't remember the vinyl that well - it was part of the soundtrack to my high school years but other friends had it and it's been years since I heard the original. Any Allman's Fillmore East experts out there that could further educate me? Thanks

Hey wsebard777, you mean you wish Greg Allman hadnt kicked Dickey out of the band. And Derek Trucks is a great replacement but he's not the original. Long live Duane Allman!

First time I saw the Allman Brothers was after Duane was gone. Dickey Betts and Barry Oakley were incredible. That was at the Community Concourse in San Diego in '71, maybe early '72. They are a band that can't be beat!

Long Live Duanne Allman ,the best slide guitar player of all times!!!.I play guitar and I find myself immitating guitar lines of the Allman Brothers especially Dicky Betts and Mick Taylor, formerly with the Rolling Stones. The Allman Brothers were a truely innovative band with some of the most tasty guitar work ever to grace recordings. This is a legendary concert that is up there with the best live performances.Warren Haynes does a damn good job of filling in for Duannes giant shoes in the modern version of the Brothers.Just wish Dicky hadn't left the band.

To anyone who reads this, Please read "SKYDOG, The Duane Allman Story" by Randy Poe. He tells the details of the recordings and has written a great book and tribute to D.A.
