Concert Summary

This show captures The Chambers Brothers at the tail end of their first major North American tour, happy to be back home in California and playing between Richie Havens and Buffalo Springfield. saw them at the "Sound Factory" in Sacramento, they mingled with the people in the back of building, chatted with Willie Chambers, was enjoyable and a moment I will not forget, a very nice gentleman and just thrilled how they were getting bigger on the charts, he asked us for our names and dedicated "Time Has Come Today" to us, was a great ,energetic show

I've considered myself the ultimate Chambers Bros. fan ever since I turned onto that incredible first album. I had the pleasure of seeing them LIVE a number of times, most memorably at the Fillmore East [1970]. It was my first concert ever [and, still 1 of the best I've ever seen], and I also turned on to Taj Mahal that night ["The Real Thing" LIVE double album by Taj is still 1 of my all-time favorites...a 13 piece band, including 4 tubas! WOW!!!]. I found smaller venues to see the Brothers...sometimes being within arms-length! They provided a spiritual message [without being religious] of harmony that was unique...their message still needs to be heard. They harmonized, but also had a raw energy and FUNK that made your feet move and your soul feel refreshed. You felt as if they were singing and playing as they did when they were growing up in Mississippi, without their sound or message being diluted or distorted by anyone. I'm not a religious man, but even as a teenager I felt their soulful message of LOVE, PEACE & HAPPINESS [I often sign off on personal letters with those words]. Listen to their supreme interpretation of PEOPLE GET READY [by the most under-appreciated artist ever, Curtis Mayfield] and tell me that you haven't been moved by it. Each brother had his own sound, from [oldest brother] Joseph, to Willie, to George and to Lester [who banged the cowbell and gave out frequent, throaty screams...how PRIMAL!!!]. After they stopped touring, I frantically hoped to see them together again...I never did, although I did catch Lester a couple of times at small clubs in Manhattan. Although Brian, their drummer died many years ago, I hope that the Brothers are alive and well. I still haven't given up hope that they'll unite again someday, perhaps for some righteous cause! Meanwhile, I hope that additional [and, longer] concerts of theirs are unearthed! LOVE, PEACE & HAPPINESS, Jeff

This was my first concert ever at Filmore. I became a regular because of this performance.

Great live band. They could really deliver the goods and their down home gospel sound was so refreshing. Would have loved to seen them live. The drummer Brian was tuff!
