Playlist Summary

There are hundreds of incredible guitar performances in the Vault. Here are a select few that always catch our attention. Clapton's solo on Sunshine Of Your Love is incredible, but you MUST play on - what you'll hear from Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Peter Green, Mick Taylor and others will blow your mind. We could write paragraphs on each of these. In fact, we already have - check out the summary that accompanies each track's complete concert.…entire summary

Yes, Yes...Jimi and Jimmy are missing. But there is nothing wrong with Clapton being at the top of this list, chronological or other. 40 years of fluid mastery and diversity that is still in motion. Discount the sideman stint with James Brown, and Jimi had three, four years? Page had ten brilliant years...thirty-five years ago. Let's at least agree on a Trinity...with some very fine Apostles counted in these tracks.

I know why Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page are not on this list..."great" is an inadequate description for them. Jimi is THE Guitar God with a capital G. Jimmy sits at the left hand of God. Peace, love, Hendrix and Marx (Groucho, that is!)

Chicago Transit Authority was one of the first LPs I ever owned. Terry Kath was a MONSTER soloist. I've spent nearly 40 years trying to convince everyone I know how great he was. Liberation, off CTA, is usually all it takes to turn someone into a fan. Glad to see there are at least a few more discerning listeners who consider him shamefully underrated. As for the playlist presented, they're all great. If you tried to come up with a list of 100 great guitarists , you'd still end up leaving someone off that should be on it.

list is O.K. but I grew up in the 60's&70's and Jimi wasn't on the list Why?

When I think of Incredible, Live Guitar, I can't help to think about Ten Years After at Woodstock, playing "I'm Going Home" Nuff said.

I think the list is pretty good. It was nice to see Rory Gallagher and the old Fleetwood Mac on the list. I can't believe that someone thinks Clapton is a hack. My friend use to hand turn a record in trying to decipher his licks. I also agree that Jimi should be on the list, but the one that I would certainly add is Alvin Lee. He was amazing. KW

Ahem, please. Go to Quicksilver Messenger Service...check out Maiden of the Cancer Moon going into Calvary. John Cippolina and Gary Duncan were amazing. Other noteworthy performances in the vault is David Gilmour on the '77 concert, Duane Allman '71 Fillmore West show and Johnny Winters' Highway 61. As for epidenimus comment about Clapton...catch yerself on...are you serious? Also, I would like to see Richard Thompson somewhere on the list...slainte.
